Dr. Penka Pesheva, PhD – President & Chief Executive Officer

Penka Pesheva has a PhD in neurobiology and until 2010 was a professor of neurobiology at the University of Bonn, Germany. In 2011 she founded P.Glia. During her academic career at the University of Heidelberg, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and the University of Bonn, her research group made fundamental contributions to understanding the role of CNS matrix molecules (tenascin) in the regulation of axon growth and CNS myelination.

Dr. Pesheva graduated in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Sofia and received her PhD in neurobiology from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1994 she accomplished her habilitation in neurobiology at the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich with her pioneer work on the molecular mechanisms of matrix (tenascin-R)-mediated cell adhesion, repulsion and differentiation in the vertebrate nervous system.

Dr. Pesheva combines more than twenty years of research experience with several years of experience in marketing and business development, first, as a scientific advisor of Pharmacia Biotechnology (GE Healthcare), and later on, as a founder and president of P.Glia. Her inventions in tenascin-R- and MAD-based technologies for neural cell isolation and culture resulted in several patents.
