Cell Isolation

The application of glial and neuronal cell culture techniques for the analysis of their cellular and molecular properties has become a promising tool in biomedical sciences and drug development. In addition to neurons, the mammalian brain contains three main types of glial cells: astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and microglia. Glial cells significantly contribute to the health and disease state of the central nervous system (CNS) and a number of neurodegenerative disorders have been associated with glial cell dysfunction. It is now evident that the majority of neurodegenerative diseases are associated with oligodendrocyte dysfunction and/or damage.

Oligodendrocytes are the minor (2-5% of the brain cell population) and most sensitive cell type in the CNS. Their isolation and culture is the object of long-lasting frustrating efforts of neuroscientists to obtain high-yield, pure and viable cell populations in a short period of time.

The P.Glia solution: Unique kits for the ultimate simplicity of neural cell isolation:

  • NG2 glia/oligodendrocyte progenitors in two days!
  • cortical neuron isolation in a day!
  • hippocampal neuron isolation in a day!
  • cerebellar granule neuron isolation in two hours!
  • from postnatal mouse or rat brain!
  • for your ambitious research on neurodegeneration and brain disease.

P.Glia offers ready-to-use cell isolation kits for the simple and rapid isolation of oligodendrocytes / oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) and neurons from postnatal mouse or rat brain.
